The work intends to make an approach from a relation between body / mirror.
The body suffers a lot, until the moment that becomes aware of its condition after observing in the mirror.
However, after this awareness, the individual feels the need to be free of the torture infringed upon the body. Unfortunately the marks can be present for some time or even permanently.
The project can have two ambiguous meanings:
- Physical abuse: - that can result from domestic violence between a couple. Physical aggression by man/woman can leave visible marks on the body of his/her companion.
- Self-mutilation of human beings. Direct harm to own body without conscious suicidal intention. This act may have intended to relief from emotional pain.
Inspired by photographers such as Nan Goldin, Irving Penn, Francesca Woodman, and Araki Nobuyoshi.
This project has been exposed at:
- Collective Exhibition - Funchal (Rua da Carreira) - June 2013
- “Open Day” (Collective Exhibition) – Funchal (Campus da Penteada) - June 2014
- "Ponte" (Collective Exhibition) - Funchal (Gallery of art of Francisco Franco) - December 2015 to February 2016
